Meet Joy

— Your Photographer, Your Hype Squad, Your Storyteller.

Hi! My name is Joy Yang, a Houston-based photographer who just loves taking pictures. What started as a hobby soon became a passion—a passion to make others happy and help them feel confident and warm when they see themselves through my lens.

Born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, I moved to Houston, Texas, in 2012. I graduated from the University of Houston in May 2019 with a marketing major and a minor in sales/finance. I’m your local Houstonian who is still amazed by how big Texas is, and I only say "Y'ALL" instead of "you all."

I love mountains more than the sea, and I cannot function without iced coffee. I’m a fan of any dessert that has matcha in it. When I’m not working, you can find me binge-watching K-dramas at home, playing board games with friends, planning my next trip, or enjoying the great outdoors.

I got engaged to my best friend, Jeffrey, in August 2024 during a trip to Banff National Park in Canada, and we officially tied the knot at a courthouse ceremony in January 2025! We’re still in the process of planning a bigger celebration for early next year with our closest friends and family—more to come!

We've been together for over 8 years since our college days and now live in Houston with our little crew. Our two cats—Alfred (our grumpy old man) and Beryl (the sweetest girl)—rule the house, but things got extra lively when we adopted CJ, our energetic Australian Cattle Dog, in September 2023. A year later, we brought home Dotson from the Fort Bend Animal Shelter to be her buddy. Now we’ve got “cray cray” CJ and “dum dum” Dotson keeping life very entertaining. (Shameless plug: follow their adventures on Instagram @cdot_the_blue_heeler for all the dog chaos and cuteness!) It’s been an adventure blending this furry family, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.

In terms of photography, I have the most fun working with couples and weddings! There’s this indescribable magic when you point your camera at two people crazy about each other. Call it cheesy, call it cliché, but capturing couples through my lens is my jam. Couples communicate so beautifully without saying a word—it’s an unspoken language of glances, touches, and stolen kisses. As a photographer, I get to translate that silent love story into a visual narrative. No script, just genuine emotion.

When you choose me as your photographer—whether it’s for your wedding day or a regular session—you’re getting more than just someone with a camera. I’ll be your biggest hype woman, your calming presence, and your guide every step of the way.

For weddings, I’m here to support you from start to finish. I’ll help build a personalized photo timeline, offer guidance on moments like the first look, family portraits, and grand exit, and share tips on details like flat lay styling and getting ready spaces. On your big day, I’ll blend in when needed and step up when it counts—capturing everything from the quiet in-between moments to the joyful chaos on the dance floor. My goal is to make sure you feel cared for, relaxed, and truly present so you can soak it all in.

For regular sessions, I’ll guide you through natural posing, help with outfit ideas, and create a space where you feel confident and comfortable. Whether you’re celebrating a milestone, a season of life, or just want beautiful photos “just because,” I’m here to help you feel your best.

No matter the occasion, my goal is always the same: to help you feel seen, celebrated, and completely yourself—so we can create photos that feel real, joyful, and timeless.

I look forward to working with you—please don’t be shy, come say hi!

FAQ

How did you get into photography?

I got into photography in 2012 when my family and I decided to take our first road trip in U.S. after we moved here. I wanted to document our travel experience, and my mom helped me paid for my first camera!

How would you describe your editing style?

My editing style is all about balancing warmth and vibrancy in a way that feels natural and inviting. I keep things modern and polished without overdoing it—capturing the real moments with soft, timeless tones and just a little extra artistry to bring out the emotions and details.

How long have you been doing photography?

Professionally, I've been doing this since 2018. It started off by taking graduation pictures for friends when I was still a sophomore in college.

What type of camera and lens do you use?

I mainly use a Sony A7iv with a Sigma 35mm f/1.4 + 50mm f1.4 prime lens to help create that creamy background and focus on the subject - which is you!
